Every mobility scooter has 2 batteries and batteries aren’t cheap! The life of your batteries depends on your usage and how you recharge them, therefore it’s important that you understand how you should charge your batteries to suit your usage.
We recommend following the simple steps below to ensure optimum life of all mobility scooter batteries.
1. If you use your scooter everyday, charge the batteries every night uninterrupted for a minimum of 12 hours.
2. If you use your mobility scooter less than three times a week, charge the batteries on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights uninterrupted for a minimum of 12 hours.
3. Make sure you do not turn off the charger once the green light appears. The green light normally indicates that the batteries are at 80% and the charger moves into trickle mode.
4. If possible, use your mobility scooter at least once a week for at least 30 minutes, this will ensure a longer battery life. All batteries need to be ‘cycled’ regularly or they could fail earlier than expected.
5. Never plug a charger into a scooter when the charger is turned on, this could cause a surge into the machine and damage the controller.
6. Only use the charger output size (4amp or 8amp) that came with your scooter. If you are unsure please give us a call and we can check for you. If you use the wrong size batteries you can damage the life of the batteries.
7. Always plug your battery charger directly from your mobility scooter to your power point. If you can’t plug your charger directly into a power point, please use the shortest extension cord possible.
8. If you are going away for a long period of time, we can store your scooter for you and keep it correctly charges until your return.
Having your batteries charged correctly will ensure optimum lifespan. It is important that your mobility scooter has regular maintenance and annual servicing to make sure it is kept in good working order and always safe and ready to go.
